AUSU Flags Campus Security Concerns After Student Leader’s Motorcycle Stolen

way2barak Dec 18: Raising serious concerns over student safety, the Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) has submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Cachar, following the theft of a motorcycle belonging to its President from near the Assam University campus.
The stolen vehicle, a Royal Enfield Classic 350 (Navy Edition – Airborne Blue), was reportedly taken from a residential area close to the university while the AUSU President was attending a social function. The incident has once again highlighted the growing insecurity in and around the Assam University campus, particularly in student-dominated residential zones.
In the memorandum, AUSU stated that similar thefts have occurred earlier, with FIRs lodged but without effective follow-up action. The students’ body expressed concern that the absence of concrete measures has emboldened criminal activities, creating fear and anxiety among students residing in the area.
Assam University hosts students from diverse regions of the country, and such incidents, the union noted, raise serious questions about their safety. AUSU has urged the district police to promptly register the complaint, initiate a thorough investigation to recover the stolen motorcycle, and strengthen police patrolling, night surveillance, and other preventive measures around the campus.
Expressing faith in law enforcement, the Students’ Union hoped for swift intervention to ensure the safety and security of the student community and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
