At last! Assam University postpones TDC exam till 12 May on the directives of DC Cachar
B.Ed practical exam suspended in only Cachar district till 12 May
April 27: Finally, acting upon the directives issued by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar, Assam University ultimately postponed the ongoing TDC (CBCS) Odd Semester Examination from 5 May till 12 May. Further, the B.Ed practical examination, which was supposed to begin on 28 April was also suspended till 12 May but only in the district of Cachar. An order to this effect was issued by Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar of Assam University on Tuesday night.
The notification issued by the Registrar of the varsity stated:
- Offline activities of all Academic Departments of the University and affiliated Colleges of the District of Cachar shall remain closed from 28th April 2021 to 12th May 2021. Online classes shall continue as notified.
- TDC odd Semester examinations for the period 5th May 2021 to 12th May 2021 is postponed until further notice.
- B.Ed practical Examinations of the District of Cachar only shall remain suspended upto 12th May 2021.
- Essential and urgent services of the University shall continue. Administrative wings of the University shall accordingly remain open from 11 AM to 3 PM upto 12th May 2021.
- Visitors during the period (upto 12th May 2021) will not be allowed in University campus.
- All hostels will remain closed. Research Scholars staying in hostels are expected to vacate the hostels as early as possible. While vacating the hostels, the boarders should take away all their belongings from hostel room and hand over the keys of the hostel room to the respective Warden.
In the backdrop of the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, the state government of Assam has issued a series of orders in order to contain the further spread of the deadly virus. On Tuesday, in pursuance to an order issued by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Elementary/ Secondary and Higher Education Department, Keerthi Jalli, in her capacity as the Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Cachar directed all Educational Institutions (both Government and Non-Government) from Pre-primary section to University level along with Hostels and Coaching Institutions to remain closed for a period of 15 days, i.e, upto 12 May, 2021. It is in this context, that Assam University issued the order of postponement of ongoing TDC exam till 12 May.
Meanwhile, during the ongoing TDC offline examination, many students appearing in offline exam at various affiliated colleges of Assam University were detected as Covid-19 positive. Three college teachers also tested positive positive during this phase. Even on 27 April, two students of Radhamadhab College tested Covid-19 positive after they sat for the examination in the afternoon session during the day.
