Jubo Darpan salutes womanhood by felicitating the achievers on International Women’s Day

March 8: “It is in this generation’s reach to transform gender relations, to empower women and girls, and humanity as a whole.” Along with millions of people around the globe, Media House Jubo Darpan also celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8, a day that honors the achievements and calls attention to the rights of women.  The world has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women’s and society’s thoughts about women’s equality and emancipation. According to the United Nations, the theme for International Women’s Day 2020 is “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.

To celebrate womanhood, along with the rest of the globe, Popular Print and Electronic Media, ‘Jubo Darpan’ celebrated ‘International Women’s Day, 2020’ by awarding 21 women of substance with awards on 8 March. The award ceremony was held at Ellora Heritage Hall on Sunday evening. Jubo Darpan has been supported by Hotel Ellora in oranising this award ceremony. Apart from them, 9 members of NCYS and 3 members of Jubo Darpan were also felicitated.

The guests of this award ceremony are Swarnali Choudhury, Suromita Poddar, Lopamudra Das Roy, Kabita Sengupta, Advocate Tuhina Sarma among others. The programme began by felicitating the guests on behalf of Jubo Darpan. In his speech, Dilu Das, the Executive Director of Jubo Darpan said, “It gives me immense honour to felicitate womanhood. You are the real makers of this nation.”

The 21 women achievers who were presented International Women’s Day Award, 2020 during the occasion are:

  • Pallabita Sharma: Category- Social Activist
  • Moonmoon Saha: Category- Social & Cultural Activist
  • Purnima Deb Roy: Category- Make-up Artist

  • Sangita Das: Category- Choreographer & Cultural Activist
  • Paromita Paul: Category- Political & Cultural Activist
  • Arpita Dutta: Category- Journalist
  • Purobi Choudhury- Category- Dentist
  • Bijoyini Choudhury- Category- Cultural Activist, Hailakandi

  • Omrita Sinha: Category- Model
  • Bidhumukhi Singh: Category- Sports
  • Aayushi Biswas: Category- Model
  • Sunipa Chakraborty: Category- Teacher
  • Dr. Ayesha Sultana: Category- Astrologer

  • Mira Suklabaidya: Category- Entrepreneur

In her speech, Advocate Tuhina Sharma upholded the role of woman in the society and said that it was not a relationship of contest with man. She said that women are the real makers of a nation. Dr. Lopamudra Das Roy, President of Breast cancer Hub highlighted the fact that its high time now and the taboo associated with breast cancer should now be given up. She stressed upon self breast checking by woman at regular intervals to detect breast cancer at an early stage.

Lopamudra also urged upon the audience to abstain from chewing tobacco. Suromita Roy Poddar, Kabita Sengupta and other guests also spoke on the importance of celebration of International Women’s day.

Almost all the achievers who were presented Jubo Darpan International Women’s Day Award, 2020, said that this award would encourage them to carry on their work in their respective field with more vigour. The felicitation ceremony came to an end by singing the National Anthem.
