Assam University Hosts National Seminar on Indigenous Knowledge
ভারতীয় জ্ঞানব্যবস্থা নিয়ে জাতীয় সেমিনার আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১১ মার্চ : ভারতীয় জ্ঞানব্যবস্থার ঐতিহ্য, উদ্ভাবন ও ভবিষ্যৎ সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে একদিনের জাতীয় সেমিনারের আয়োজন করল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। মঙ্গলবার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সেন্টার ফর ইন্ডিয়ান নলেজ সিস্টেম উইথ রেফারেন্স টু নর্থইস্ট ইন্ডিয়া স্টাডিজ–এর উদ্যোগে অনুষ্ঠিত এই সেমিনারে দেশের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তের গবেষক ও বিশেষজ্ঞরা অংশ নিয়ে ভারতের সমৃদ্ধ জ্ঞানঐতিহ্যের গুরুত্ব ও প্রাসঙ্গিকতা নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানে স্বাগত ভাষণ দেন কেন্দ্রের পরিচালক অধ্যাপক এম গঙ্গাভূষণ। তিনি সেমিনারের উদ্দেশ্য ও তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরে বলেন, ভারতীয় সভ্যতায় নিহিত ঐতিহ্যবাহী জ্ঞানপ্রণালীকে নতুন করে আবিষ্কার, নথিভুক্ত ও প্রচার করা অত্যন্ত প্রয়োজন। বিশেষ করে উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতের প্রেক্ষাপটে আদিবাসী ও স্থানীয় জ্ঞানচর্চার গুরুত্ব তিনি উল্লেখ করেন এবং এই বিষয়ে আন্তঃবিভাগীয় গবেষণা বৃদ্ধির ওপর জোর দেন।

উদ্বোধনী অধিবেশনে পৌরোহিত্য করেন ভারপ্রাপ্ত উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক আব্দুল রাজাক টি। তিনি বলেন, বিজ্ঞান, প্রযুক্তি, গণিত, জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান, চিকিৎসা, দর্শন ও শাসনব্যবস্থাসহ নানা ক্ষেত্রে ভারতের প্রাচীন জ্ঞানঐতিহ্য বিশ্বকে সমৃদ্ধ করেছে। এই বৌদ্ধিক ঐতিহ্য আধুনিক গবেষণা ও উদ্ভাবনকে আজও অনুপ্রাণিত করছে বলে তিনি উল্লেখ করেন।

প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন গুয়াহাটির আসাম ডাউনটাউন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক সুকুমল দেব। তিনি বলেন, ভারতীয় জ্ঞানপ্রণালী বর্তমান সমাজ-অর্থনৈতিক সমস্যার সমাধানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখতে পারে। বিশেষ করে গ্রামীণ দরিদ্র জনগোষ্ঠীর উন্নয়নে ঐতিহ্যবাহী জ্ঞানভিত্তিক দক্ষতা ও জীবিকা উন্নয়নের সম্ভাবনার কথা তিনি তুলে ধরেন।

স্কুল অব সোশ্যাল সায়েন্সেসের ডিন অধ্যাপক বি কে বেহেরা সমাজের প্রান্তিক ও দুর্বল জনগোষ্ঠীকে ক্ষমতায়নের ক্ষেত্রে জ্ঞানের রূপান্তরমূলক ভূমিকার কথা উল্লেখ করেন। অন্যদিকে স্কুল অব এডুকেশনের ডিন অধ্যাপক আর বালাকৃষ্ণন ভারতের প্রাচীন স্থাপত্য ও নির্মাণ প্রযুক্তির অসাধারণ সাফল্যের দৃষ্টান্ত তুলে ধরেন।

এদিন অনলাইনেও কয়েকজন বিশিষ্ট শিক্ষাবিদ বক্তব্য রাখেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে ছিলেন পুনের ভারতী বিদ্যাপীঠ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন পরিচালক অধ্যাপক বি টি লাওয়ানি, পঞ্জাব বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক ডি পি সিং এবং বিহারের মুঙ্গের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রঞ্জিত কুমার ভার্মা। তাঁরা উচ্চশিক্ষায় ভারতীয় জ্ঞানপ্রণালীর গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরে আধুনিক অ্যাকাডেমিক আলোচনায় দেশীয় জ্ঞানকে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করার ওপর জোর দেন।

দেশের বারোটি রাজ্যের বেশি স্থান থেকে আগত গবেষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণে সেমিনারটি প্রাণবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে। সেমিনারে ছয়টি বিদ্যায়তনিক অধিবেশনে ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্বাস্থ্যচর্চা, আদিবাসী পরিবেশজ্ঞান, সম্প্রদায়ভিত্তিক জীবিকা ব্যবস্থা, ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্থাপত্য, শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থা এবং টেকসই উন্নয়নে দেশীয় জ্ঞানের ভূমিকা নিয়ে বিভিন্ন গবেষণা উপস্থাপন করা হয়। শেষে অংশগ্রহণকারী ও গবেষণাপত্র উপস্থাপনকারীদের মধ্যে সনদপত্র বিতরণ করা হয়।

Way2barak, March 11 : A one-day national seminar on the tradition, innovation and future prospects of the Indian Knowledge System was organized at Assam University on Tuesday. The seminar was hosted by the university’s Centre for Indian Knowledge System with Reference to Northeast India Studies, bringing together researchers and experts from different parts of the country to discuss the significance and contemporary relevance of India’s rich knowledge heritage.

The welcome address was delivered by the Director of the Centre, Prof. M. Gangabhushan, who highlighted the objectives and importance of the seminar. He emphasized the need to rediscover, document and promote the traditional knowledge systems embedded in Indian civilization. He particularly referred to the importance of indigenous and local knowledge traditions in the context of Northeast India and stressed the need to expand interdisciplinary research in this field.

The inaugural session was presided over by the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Razak T. He stated that India’s ancient knowledge traditions have enriched the world in diverse fields such as science, technology, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, philosophy and systems of governance. He added that this intellectual heritage continues to inspire modern research and innovation.

The chief guest of the event was Prof. Sukumal Deb from Assam down town University, Guwahati. In his address, he noted that the Indian knowledge system can play an important role in addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges. He highlighted the potential of traditional knowledge-based skills and livelihoods in improving the conditions of rural and economically weaker communities.

Dean of the School of Social Sciences Prof. B. K. Behera spoke about the transformative role of knowledge in empowering marginalized and vulnerable sections of society. Meanwhile, Dean of the School of Education Prof. R. Balakrishnan presented remarkable examples of achievements in ancient Indian architecture and construction technology. Several eminent scholars also addressed the seminar online. Among them were Prof. B. T. Lawani, former Director of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune; Prof. D P Singh from Panjab University and Prof. Ranjit Kumar Verma, former Vice-Chancellor of Munger University, Bihar. They emphasized the importance of integrating Indian knowledge systems into modern academic discourse and higher education.

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from researchers and students representing more than twelve states across the country. Six academic sessions were held during the seminar, where research papers were presented on themes such as traditional healthcare practices, indigenous ecological knowledge, community-based livelihood systems, traditional architecture, education systems, and the role of indigenous knowledge in sustainable development. Certificates were distributed among participants and paper presenters at the end of the programme.
