47 detected positive in Cachar on Wednesday; 2 more die at SMCH

Sept. 23: On Wednesday, the number of new cases of COVID-19 decreased once again. A total of 47 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar. During the day, 46 persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT), whereas only 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Wednesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 8,392. It needs mention here that 89 persons were found positive in Cachar on Tuesday.

The only positive case found in RT-PCR test in Cachar on Wednesday is a 57-year-old male from Tulagram Pt.2. He tested positive after coming in direct contact with a high risk lab confirmed case.

In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Wednesday said that in the last 24 hours, 252 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 400 persons were collected. 437 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 33 of them tested positive. Further, 112 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 09 were found positive.

Apart from this, 24 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 12 were discharged. At present, there are 133 active patients at SMCH,out of which, 16 are admitted in ICU and 02 in ventilation. 22 patients are now in critical condition. Another 33 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 159 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 293 patients.

Dr. Gupta further informed that in the last 24 hours, 02 persons have died due to COVID-19 at SMCH, out of which, one is from Cachar, whereas the other is from Tripura. As of now, there were 141 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 141 deaths, 57 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
