Barak Valley registers 262 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 270 discharged & 3 deaths recorded

There are 3,482 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 19: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 262 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day.  Further, during the day, 270 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,482 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 430 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 172 positive cases   (It was 236 on Saturday)
  • Karimganj: 75 positive cases (It was 60 on Saturday)
  • Hailakandi: 15 positive cases (It was 44 on Saturday)

 A total of 172 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 8,787 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 101 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 16,375, whereas during this phase, 14,395 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,806.  Also, 106 patients were discharged during the day. Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 18 June to 5 PM on 19 June) witnessed demise of 03 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 03 deceased, 02 are from Hailakandi and 01 is from Karimganj. No fatalities were reported from Cachar at SMCH on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Safiqur Rahman (54) from Kaliganj in Karimganj, Rahima Begum Barbhuiya (47) from Hailakandi district and Sitangshu Nath (49) also from Hailakandi.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 19 June, there were 131 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 77 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 54 of them were in the Covid ward. Hailakandi registered only 15 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 15 positive cases detected on Saturday, 15 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) but none were found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 607 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,046 RAT tests and 445 RT-PCR tests were done. 52 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,353. As of now, a total of 3,332 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 46 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday.

As of now, in the 62,206 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 18,014 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 75 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 1,069 active COVID-19 cases, while 112 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 3,929 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 116 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,61,420 tests, 3,571 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,80,730. The positivity rate in the state is 2.21 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 199 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 40 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,178. The recovery rate is 91.77 percent. On Saturday, 5,141 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,41,184 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. With this, a total of 4,41,184 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.

Further, during the day, 40 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 40 deceased, 16 are from Nagaon; 04 from Sonitpur; 03 each from Kamrup Metro & Kamrup Rural; 02 each from Barpeta, Karimganj & Tinsukia; 01 each from Baksa, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang, Dhubri, Golaghat, Kokhrajhar & Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,178.
