Borkhola Model Degree College in Cachar converted into COVID Hospital

July 21: As the number of novel coronavirus cases are increasing in Cachar district at a great pace, the health department is now converting many other venues as makeshift hospitals. On Tuesday, The Model Degree College at Borkhola, Cachar was also converted into a COVID hospital. Confirming this, Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert said, “We have started admitting COVID patients at Model Degree College, Borkhola from today. If need arises, we will make more makeshift hospitals. As of now, we are admitting all COVID positive patients in one or the other hospitals.”

Earlier during the week, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli visited the Model Degree College, Borkhola along with with a team comprising of ADC Health, officials of district health department and PWD Engineers. She took stock of the arrangements made therein and went around the campus to have a proper understanding of the available facilities. The Deputy Commissioner gave necessary instructions so that all arrangements are made properly.

As of now, COVID-19 positive patients are admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), SM Dev Civil Hospital, Palonghat Model Hospital, Foreigners’ Tribunal at Rongpur, Chibitabichiya Model Hospital and Model Degree College, Borkhola.

On Tuesday, a total of 55 persons were tested COVID-19 positive. Further two persons including a 7-year-old child died in Cachar being infected by coronavirus. However, they had co-morbidity. These cases were referred for the opinion of Death Audit Board.
