Barak Valley registers 237 positive cases on Wednesday

September 2: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less compared to the previous day. A total of 237 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 263 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 144 positive cases   (It was 174 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 64 positive cases (It was 35 on  Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi: 29 positive cases (It was 54 on Tuesday)

Another 143 new cases of novel coronavirus positive were reported from Cachar district on Wednesday. During the day, a total of 1018 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done in the district, out of which, 134 were detected as COVID-19 positive, the rest 09 cases were found in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Wednesday late evening. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Cachar registered 174 positive cases. During the day, 2 laboratory technicians of Microbiology lab of SMCH were found positive.

In his routine media briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that 1 person from Cachar died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. The deceased was identified as Pranesh Nath (52) from Ambicapatty, Silchar was admitted in SMCH at 1.22 PM on 29 August. He, however, breathed his last at 10.35 PM on 1 September, 2020. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.

29 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Wednesday, taking the total tally to 2,423. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 29 positive cases, 15 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while 14 under RT-PCR. 549 swab samples have been found negative on Wednesday.

Altogether 1,240 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,891 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 516. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nine deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 150 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation.

On Wednesday, 64 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Karimganj district. Further, 8 persons got cured and were subsequently discharged on Monday. Among them, 43 were detected post in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 21 tested positive in RT-PCR Test. During the day, 832 rapid tests were done in the district. With this, till now, 2485 persons were infected with novel coronavirus. Out of them, 1580 patients were already discharged. At present, there are 905 active cases in Karimganj. On Wednesday, 36 patients were discharged.

In his routine media briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that 2 persons from Karimganj died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. The deceased were identified as Madhabi Bhattacharjee (75) R.K. Mission Road, Karimganj was admitted in SMCH at 6.40 PM on 30 August. She, however, succumbed to the infection at 3.15 PM on 1 September. Her death was certified as Covid death by the State Death Audit Board. Fatima Begum (45) from Ashimganj in Karimganj district was admitted in SMCH at 11.44 PM on 31 August. She died at 5.30 AM on 2 September, 2020. Her death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.

Apart from the valley, a total of 3,555 persons tested positive in Assam on Wednesday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,15,279. As of now, there are 26,227 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,834 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 88,726 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 08 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 323.

With over 78,000 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 count on Wednesday crossed the 37 lakh-mark, while the death toll has crossed the 66,000-mark as well. On Wednesday, the COVID-19 tally in the country has reached 37,69,524 cases, which include 8,01,282 active cases; 29,01,909 cured, discharged, or migrated patients, and 66,333 deaths. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as many as 78,357 new COVID-19 cases and 1,045 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, marking a significant spike.
