Fire breaks out at Baby ICU of Gauhati Medical College

December 28: At around 6.30 in the evening on Friday, a fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Baby ICU) of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Fire tenders reached the spot very soon and jumped into action. Though the fire was doused but smoke was still noticed coming out of the Unit. There was, however, no reports of any casualties.

Further, intense chaos among the patients and their relatives was noticed. Many parents rushed inside the unit to fetch their child.

As per sources, the GMCH houses around 1000 patients, attendants, doctors and staff whereas, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, there were around twenty babies.
