Cyclone Titli: Assam to experience heavy rains

October 12: For those waiting to enjoy Durga Puja, this might be a bad news. Under the influence of Cyclone Titli, risks of heavy rain are high in the east. Over 100mm of rainfall is forecast at coastal areas. Rain showers are likely in northeastern states, West Bengal and Odisha. Risks of heavy rain and dense fog at night persist in the region. Cooler temperatures across north and east can be expected due to the wet weather.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) severe cyclonic storm ‘Titli’ will hit Assam in between Friday and Monday. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, the cyclone left the coast of West Bengal which will intensify in the next 12 hours and is likely to move northwest wards, thereafter it will re-curve to northeast wards and later to move towards Odisha. The Deputy Commissioners have also been advised to activate Incidence Response Team. Both NDRF and SDRF teams have been kept on high alert in the state. The State Disaster Management Board is constantly monitoring the situation.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati has further informed that in Assam during the first three days, i.e 11th, 12th and 13th of October, there will be heavy rainfall. Around 75 percent of the predicted rainfall will occur in this period. On the fourth day (14 October), the intensity of rains will reduce by around 25 percent. However, as per weather forecast, on the 5th day, i.e. on 15 October, there will be significant reduction in the intensity of rains in Assam.

Well, this would definitely bring smile in the faces of those who have been waiting long to enjoy and celebrate Durga Puja in a befitting manner from 16 October onwards.
