COVID-19 positive cases go up to 59 in Hailakandi district

June 6: 12 more fresh COVID-19 cases have been reported in Hailakandi district in the past 48 hours, taking the tally to 59. One person succumbed to COVID-19 infection. Health authorities here disclosed that seven persons namely Abdul Ahad, 26, Abdul Hafiz Laskar, 27, Ashokuddin Laskar, 26, Zakir Hussain Laskar, 30, and Sajjad Ahmed Choudhury, 25, all with travel history to Maharashtra, Golap Hussain Mazumder, 21, with travel history to West Bengal and Mantu Suklabaidya, 31, with travel history to Tamil Nadu, under institutional quarantine tested positive on Friday.

On Saturday, three persons under institutional quarantine at JNV, Monacherra namely Fajol Ahmed Barbhuiya, 25, Somir Sinha, 47 and Joynal Hussain Sek, 33 tested positive while two other persons Mangoli Rani Das, 53 and Jhintu Das, 30, under home quarantine at Bokriwar Part I turned out to be positive. They were all shifted to the isolation wards of SK Roy Civil Hospital.

On Thursday, one Hafizur Rahman Barbhuiya, 21 with travel history to Maharashtra turned out to be COVID-19 positive. He arrived here from Guwahati after spending seven days in quarantine there and was put under institutional quarantine at the Institute of Polytechnic, Katlicherra. His swab sample taken at Guwahati tested positive. “As the second swab result of the youth sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital is awaited, and as a precautionary measure he has been shifted to the isolation ward of SK Roy Civil Hospital,” said a health official on condition of anonymity.

People discharged from quarantine at JNV

With this new positive cases, 38 persons infected with the disease are admitted in the isolation wards of the district hospital designated as COVID-19 hospital. Nine infected persons are undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. With the discharge of eight persons from the SMC&H, there are 50 active cases in the district that include one death.

Of the total 2,022 swab samples taken, 1,526 tested negative while the results of 426 are awaited, as on Friday evening. Altogether 670 persons are under institutional quarantine centres while 546 under home quarantine. There are 18 facility quarantine centres with a total bed capacity of 1,167.
