Bhupen Hazarika’s centenary : 50 eminent personalities from Cachar to participate at inaugural event in Guwahati

The historic occasion will be graced by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lending a national dimension to the tribute for one of India’s most iconic cultural figures.

In a unique initiative to ensure the celebrations are inclusive and reflective of Dr. Hazarika’s deep connect with people from all walks of life, the Assam Government has directed every district to identify individuals who have personally interacted with the legendary bard or hold cherished memories of him. In Cachar, 50 such eminent personalities will be specially invited to the inaugural function in Guwahati, honouring their personal bond with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and their contribution to preserving his legacy.

The District Administration, Cachar, underlining the importance of community participation, has announced that these distinguished invitees will represent the district at the inaugural ceremony, adding an emotional and historic touch to the state-wide tribute. Meanwhile, as part of the preparations, a crucial planning meeting will be held on August 11, 2025, at 3 PM in the new Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar. Leading citizens, cultural stalwarts, and individuals who have personally met Dr. Hazarika during his lifetime have been cordially invited to attend. If someone in Cachar district has personally shared precious moments with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, they are requested to join the meeting at the DC’s Conference Hall on Monday, August 11, at 3 PM. The meeting will discuss detailed arrangements for Cachar’s participation in the September 8 inauguration and chart out programmes to be held locally as part of the year-long celebrations.
