BJP heads towards decisive victory, Kejriwal-Atishi trail

way2barak February 8: The BJP is on track to form a government in Delhi for the first time in over 26 years, with data from the Election Commission indicating the party is leading in 47 out of the 70 assembly seats, while AAP is ahead in 23.

Delhi’s political landscape witnessed a dramatic showdown on February 5 as millions of residents headed to polling stations to decide the fate of their city’s government.

The electoral battle, whose results are set to be unveiled today, has shaped up to be one of the most intensely contested, with the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fighting to retain power against a resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress party seeks to break its decade-long losing streak in the capital.

The Election Commission reported a moderate turnout of 60.42 percent across Delhi’s 70 constituencies, with interesting geographical variations. North East Delhi emerged as the most politically active district, recording a robust 66.25 percent voter participation, while South East Delhi showed relatively lesser enthusiasm with 56.16 per cent turnout.

The election features several heavyweight candidates across key constituencies, including AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s Parvesh Verma battling it out in New Delhi, while constituencies like Kalkaji witness a three-way contest between AAP’s Atishi, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, and Congress’s Alka Lamba. Other prominent faces include AAP’s Manish Sisodia in Jangpura and BJP’s Kapil Mishra in Karawal Nagar.
