Cachar Police nabs 3 including mastermind of bike-borne money snatching gang

Feb. 7: Money snatching from the public after withdrawing money from banks in Silchar by bike-borne miscreants have become rampant in Silchar. In the last few weeks, atleast four such incidents were reported from Silchar town wherein huge amount of money were snatched by this bike-borne gang wearing full mask helmets. This has led to great resentment among the general public, who raised several questions on the role of police and bank authorities. Finally, Cachar Police under the direction of Police Super Ramandeep Kaur launched an all-out drive against the miscreants and was successful in apprehending three members of the notorious gang including its kingpin.

As per reports, a team of Silchar Sadar Police Station launched a search operation on Tuesday and nabbed one of the most wanted mastermind of the snatcher gang, Rokibul Hussain, alias Rocky from Sildubi. Prior to this, on Monday, Cachar Police also apprehended Bishal Sabdakar from Shib Bari Road, Tarapur and Shahid Ahmed Laskar from Nandigram in Sonai.

Confirming this, police informed that they were able to recover some cash from the possession of the most wanted Rocky. Sources revealed that during the preliminary interrogation, Rokibul Hussain, alias Rocky has confessed of snatching money from outside banks in Silchar. He has also learnt to have given leads, following which the police will conduct more raids and are hopeful of nabbing the other members of the notorious gang.

On 20 January, 2022, Rs. 1.5 lakh was snatched from a lady by two bike borne miscreants near Park Road, Silchar. On 2 February, Rs. 4 lakh was stolen in a similar manner from a person after he came out of SBI Badarpur Branch. Within 24 hours of the Badarpur incident, Silchar witnessed another such case when Rs. 5 lakh was snatched from a person near HDFC Bank at Park Road, Silchar on 3 February. Another such incident occured on last Friday at Hailakandi Road, Silchar. As per reports, a senior couple Shyamal Chakraborty and his wife Jyoti Chakraborty were robbed off Rs.1 Lakh after withdrawing it from SBI, New Silchar Branch. Finally on 7 February, former Municipal Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 21, Sanchita Acharjee became the latest victim of the bike gang and lost Rs.1.05 lakh.
