Bengalis in Assam are now helpless, I have been framed by Himanta Biswa Sarma: Pradip Dutta Roy
Nov. 27: Cachar Police on Saturday evening arrested Pradip Dutta Roy, Chief Convener of Barak Democratic Front (BDF). Earlier, Mr Dutta Roy was called in by the cops and was interrogated for long hours. His arrest is based on a FIR lodged by Hindu Yuva Parishad at Silchar Sadar Police Station. Confirming this, Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police Cachar stated that Pradip Dutta Roy has been booked under section 153A, 295, 295A, 120B, 124, 505, 506 of IPC.
Addressing the journalists, Pradip Dutta Roy said, “I have been framed by Himanta Biswa Sarma. I appeal to all Bengalis for help. The Bengali’s in Assam are now totally helpless. Our voice has been gagged. The Chief Minister has lodged false case against me. He wants to put me behind the bars and kill me there. I appeal to all Hindu and Muslim Bengalis of Barak Valley that I agitated for 10 long years for establishment of the University in Silchar; and now when I opposed against an Assamese signboard in Silchar, I have been framed.”
Mr Dutta Roy further stated, “As per the Assam official Language (Amendment) Act, 1961, Bengali Language shall be used for all administrative and official purposes in the District of Cachar. As such, I demanded that Bengali hoarding should be put up in Silchar as per the Act. However, now the Chief Minister instead of listening to my legitimate demand has framed me staying behind the garb of a so-called Bengali Hindu organisation.” He also appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to come to Assam and see the plight of the Bengalis over here. “Please Come here and help me,” added the BDF leader.
“There was no case against me. I had been brought here and made to sit since morning. At 4 PM today, a fresh cases was registered against me alleging that I am involved in anti-national activities. I appeal to the Bengali community to give a befitting reply to this injustice. I reiterate that Assam BJP is anti-Bengali, Himanta Biswa Sarma is anti-Bengali. Let the Bengali’s come up against them and reply,” said Pradip Dutta Roy.
Pradip Dutta Roy in the capacity of Chief Convener of BDF allegedly issued strict warning to remove a hoarding written in Assamese within the premises of Goswami Filling Station (Petrol Pump) in Silchar. Following which, the hoarding was replaced by a Bengali one. Dutta Roy citing the Assam Official Language Act claimed that as Bengali is the official language in the valley, all government posters/ hoardings should be written in Bengali.
