Barak Valley registers 258 positive cases on Tuesday

August 4: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 258 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 191 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 141 positive cases (It was 105 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 56 positive cases (It was 55 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 61 positive cases (It was 31 on Monday)

With 141 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Tuesday, Cachar recorded a total of 2078 cases of coronavirus as of now. A large number of positive cases on Monday were detected through contact tracing. Apart from this, cases on account of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) were also also found during the day.

In the 1st two slots of RT-PCR Test on Tuesday, 16 persons (14+02) tested positive in Cachar district. Whereas, a total of 125 persons were detected COVID-19 positive during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). With this, the total number of positive cases on Tuesday went upto 141. Further, there were 2 more deaths in Cachar. As per reports, the two persons were infected with coronavirus. Speaking on this issue, Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert said, “These two cases of death were referred to the State Death Audit Board. Once the report comes, only then we will be able to say whether the deaths were caused due to COVID-19 or due to co-morbidity.” One of the deceased were identified as Masuk Ahmed (21) from Balighat, while the identity of the other was yet to be confirmed.

The District Media Expert further said that the number of positive cases detected on Tuesday went up because the health department has stepped up Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) in market areas of Silchar and outskirts. More than 1000 rapid tests were done on Tuesday. Moreover, many people were also coming up spontaneously for getting tested. As more and more people were detected positive during RAT, so Mr. Choudhury appealed to the people to come for Rapid test prepared to immediately go to hospital/ Covid care centre directly from the screening centre, if detected positive.

On Tuesday, 61 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1098. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 61 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 53 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). A total of 267 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them without travel history. 19 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals on Tuesday, taking the total number of persons released to 846.The number of active cases in the district is currently 246.

Karimganj district registered a biggest spike of  56 COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday. This takes the district tally to 886. Out of the 56 positive cases on Tuesday, 40 of them were detected during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Apart from this, 08 persons were discharged in Karimganj. Till now, 509 patients were cured and discharged.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2886 persons tested positive in Assam on Tuesday, thereby taking the state tally to 48,161. This is the biggest one-day spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Assam. As of now, there are 13,622 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 993 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 34,421 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 6 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 115.

India recorded the highest number of coronavirus sample tests in a single day, with 6,61,715 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. The total cases have reached 18,55,745 after a single-day spike of 52,050. Meanwhile, recoveries have increased to 12,30,509. Death toll has surged to 38,938 and 5,86,298 are active cases.
