Barak Valley registers 111 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 257 discharged

There are 1,248 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 1: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 111 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 257 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,248 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 132 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 75 positive cases   (It was 85 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 27 positive cases (It was 39 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 08 on Wednesday)

 A total of 75 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,870 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 57 persons were found positive, whereas 18 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,662, whereas during this phase, 16,931 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 563.  Also, 135 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley for more than a month with a gap of two days in between. However, the last 24 hours (5 PM on 30 June to 5 PM on 1 July) again did not witness the death of any Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).  This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Thursday evening.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 1 July, there were 120 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 56 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 64 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 12 patients were put under ventilator support and 81 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 13 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 21 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 09 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 09 positive cases detected on Thursday, 09 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas none were were detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 134 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,450 RAT tests and 320 RT-PCR tests were done. 38 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,514 (both 1st & 2nd wave).  As of now, a total of 3,961 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 08 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday.

Karimganj registered 27 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 551 active COVID-19 cases, while 84 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 3,178 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 39 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 1,37,665 tests, 2,669 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,11,153. The positivity rate in the state is 1.94 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 176 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 38 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. On Thursday, 3,329 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,80,839 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care centres across the state. This was confirmed in a tweet by NHM, Assam. The recovery rate in the state is 94.07 percent.  At present, there are 24,390 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 38 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 38 deceased, 09 are from Jorhat; 04 each from Morigaon & Sivasagar; 03 each from Sonitpur & Tinsukia; 02 each from Baksa, Golaghat, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong & Nagaon; 01 each from Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Kamrup Metro & Nalbari. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,577.
