AUTA commemorated its 28th Foundation Day

way2barak, August 20: The Assam University Teachers’ Association (AUTA) commemorated its 28th Foundation Day on 20 August at the Bipin Chandra Pal Seminar Hall of the University that saw former senior professor of Economics at Assam University and currently Vice Chancellor of Gurucharan University Prof. Niranjan Roy returning to Assam University to attend the programme as the guest of honour.
The Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Pant and Prof. Roy were joined on the dais by the office-bearers of AUTA, namely President Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar Singh, Vice President Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty, General Secretary Dr. Ameet Kumar Das, Joint Secretaries Dr. Biswa Ranjan Roy and Dr. Abhijit Biswas.
Prof. Niranjan Roy, in his address expressed his gratitude to all members of Assam University and delved on the role of teachers in the realisation of the national project of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He spoke about his association with AUTA and expressed hope that the Assam University’s teachers’ body will continue to fulfill the expectations and aspirations of the student community who look up to their teachers as role models and added that associations like AUTA are the guardians of that sacred duty.
Assam University Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant during his address lauded AUTA for its nearly three-decade-long role as a crucial bridge between the university administration and its faculty. He also stated that teachers are the bedrock of a nation’s human resource wealth, and teachers have an important role to play in the nation’s progress and development, since the National Education Policy 2020 have been framed by teachers. He cited several instances where teachers can inspire and motivate students to achieve the impossible.
AUTA President, Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar Singh, in his speech, detailed the association’s history of advocacy and its successful initiatives over the years. He reiterated the association’s unwavering commitment to protecting the interests of teachers while working in tandem with the administration for the overall progress of the University.

A highlight of the event was the felicitation of superannuated former professor of English, Prof. R. P. Biswas, by the AUTA for his lifetime of service, immense contributions to the department, and to the university. Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty, Vice president of AUTA delivered the vote of thanks.
The formal event was followed by a colourful cultural programme, featuring performances by several faculty members. Dr. Monali Longmailai, Assistant Professor at the Department of Linguistics, hosted the daylong programme.
