International Youth Day celebrated at Assam University
আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক যুব দিবস পালিত

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২০ আগস্ট : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এনএসএস সেল ও রেড রিবন ক্লাবের উদ্যোগে গতকাল ‘টেকসই ভবিষ্যতের জন্য যুব ক্ষমতায়ন’ বিষয়ের ওপর সম্প্রসারিত আন্তর্জাতিক যুব দিবস পালন করা হয়। এতে মোট ১২টি কলেজের এনএসএস ইউনিটের প্রায় ৩০০ জন অংশ নেন।

প্রদীপ প্রজ্জ্বলনের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা হয়। স্বাগত বক্তব্য রাখেন এনএসএস সেল ও রেড রিবন ক্লাবের প্রোগ্রাম কোঅর্ডিনেটর অধ্যাপক গঙ্গাভূষণ এম. মোলাঙ্কন। তিনি আন্তর্জাতিক যুব দিবসের তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরেন ও সমসাময়িক সময়ে যুব সমাজ যে চ্যালেঞ্জগুলির মুখোমুখি হচ্ছে তা মোকাবেলা করতে ইতিবাচকভাবে সম্পৃক্ত করার প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথা উল্লেখ করেন।

ডিন, একাডেমিক অধ্যাপক চিররঞ্জন ভট্টাচার্য জাতি গঠনে যুবসমাজের গুরুত্ব বর্ণনা করেন ও আধুনিক বিজ্ঞান এবং ভারতীয় মূল্যবোধ উভয়ের মধ্যেই নিহিত একটি সুষম জীবনযাত্রার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর জোর দেন।

সমাজকর্ম বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক তরুণ বিকাশ সুকাই মাদক ইনজেকশন ব্যবহারকারীর ক্রমবর্ধমান সংখ্যা সম্পর্কে কথা বলেন এবং প্রতিরোধের জন্য সচেতনতা ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে জাতীয় এইডস নিয়ন্ত্রণ সংস্থার ভূমিকার ওপর জোর দেন। আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শিক্ষক সংস্থার সভাপতি ড. মৃত্যুঞ্জয় কুমার সিং টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্য অর্জনের জন্য তরুণদের সঙ্গে কাজ করার গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন।

ডিকেএমএসের সঙ্গীতা শর্মা রক্তের ক্যান্সারের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই এবং সম্ভাব্য দাতা যুবকদের মধ্যে স্টেম সেল দানের বিষয়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির জন্য সংস্থার লক্ষ্য তুলে ধরেন। আসাম রাজ্য এইডস নিয়ন্ত্রণ সমিতির প্রতিনিধি অনুপ কুমার দত্ত, সমন্বিত স্বাস্থ্য উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে তৃণমূল পর্যায়ে কাজ করার জন্য জেলা স্বাস্থ্য বিভাগের প্রচেষ্টার কথা উল্লেখ করেন।

পূর্ণাঙ্গ অধিবেশনগুলি অত্যন্ত তথ্যবহুল ছিল। শ্রী ওম স্টেম সেল দানের প্রক্রিয়াও বৈজ্ঞানিক মানদণ্ড নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন। তিনি রক্তের ক্যান্সার, অ্যাপ্লাস্টিক অ্যানিমিয়া ও ক্যান্সার সম্পর্কিত জেনেটিক সমস্যা সম্পর্কে শিক্ষার্থীদের সচেতন করেন।

প্রাসঙ্গিক বক্তব্য রাখেন ডাঃ দর্শনা পাটোয়া, ড. মিঠুন রায় প্রমুখ। এই কর্মসূচিতে এএসএসিএস এবং ডিকেএমএস-এর রিসোর্স পার্সনদের সঙ্গে এইচআইভি/এইডস সচেতনতা, স্বাস্থ্য শিক্ষা এবং স্টেম সেল সচেতনতা সম্পর্কিত অধিবেশনও অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল।

এই কর্মসূচির উল্লেখযোগ্য বিষয় ছিল অধ্যাপক গঙ্গাভূষণ পরিচালিত শপথ গ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠান, যেখানে তরুণরা ‘মাদক বর্জনের’ অঙ্গীকার করেন। অনুষ্ঠানে পোস্টার তৈরি এবং কুইজ প্রতিযোগিতার বিজয়ীদের মধ্যে শংসাপত্র বিতরণ করা হয়। শেষে ধন্যবাদ সূচক বক্তব্য রাখেন এনএসএস ইউনিটের প্রোগ্রাম অফিসার ড. শুভদীপ রায়চৌধুরী।

Way2barak, August 20 : The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell and Red Ribbon Club of Assam University celebrated extended International Youth Day 2025 with the theme “Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future.” Although 12 August is globally observed as International Youth Day, the celebrations at Assam University were extended and culminated on 19 August 2025 with participation from NSS units of 12 affiliated colleges and a gathering of around 300 participants.

The inaugural session began with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of dignitaries, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Gangabhushan M. Molankal, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell and Red Ribbon Club. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of International Youth Day and reiterated the need to positively engage the youth while addressing the challenges they face in contemporary times.

Prof. C. R. Bhattacharjee, Dean, Academic of Assam University, in his presidential address spoke on the importance of youth in nation-building and emphasized the need for a balanced lifestyle rooted in both modern science and Indian value systems. He also appreciated the proactive role of NSS and the Red Ribbon Club in nurturing such values among students.

Prof. T. B. Sukai, Head of the Department of Social Work, spoke about the increasing number of drug-injecting users and emphasized the role of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) in spreading awareness for prevention. Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar Singh, President of the Assam University Teachers’ Association, stressed the importance of working with youth to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Sangeeta Sarmah from DKMS outlined her organization’s mission to fight blood cancer and promote awareness about stem cell donation among youth, who are the potential donors. Mr. Anup Kumar Dutta, representing the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS), gave an overview of the efforts of the District Health Department in working at the grassroots level through integrated health initiatives.

The plenary sessions were highly informative. Mr. Om discussed the processes & scientific criteria of Stem Cell Donation. He also aware the students on Blood cancer, Aplastic Anemia & Genetic issues related to cancer. After his speech, 70 students voluntarily registered themselves for stem cell Donation. Dr. Darshana Patoa, Chief Medical Officer, Health Centre, AU, discussed communicable diseases and preventive measures. She elaborately discussed the diseases like TB, Skin diseases, RTIs among women and menstrual hygiene issues.

Dr. Mithun Roy spoke on the role of youth in spreading awareness about Thalassemia, Cervical Cancer, Syphilis, Human Papillomavirus, Measles, Leprosy etc. The lecture also included issues on HIV/AIDS awareness, health education etc. He also requested NSS volunteers to take some initiatives in model villages to create awareness about testing blood before marriage. It will help the people to control the spreading of various genetic as well as virological diseases.

The programme also included sessions on HIV/AIDS awareness, health education, and stem cell awareness, with resource persons from ASACS and DKMS. A highlight of the day was the oath-taking ceremony administered by Prof. Gangabhushan, where youth pledged their commitment to ‘No to Drugs’. The event also witnessed distribution of certificates to the winners of the Poster Making and Quiz competitions. The celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shubhadeep Roychoudhury, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, and the National Anthem. The week-long celebration successfully reinforced the importance of youth as catalysts of social transformation and community engagement, in line with the vision of the NSS and Red Ribbon Club to empower youth for a healthier, sustainable, and progressive society.
