Assamese not be mandatory for candidates from Barak Valley appearing for APSC
Oct. 7: Assamese language qualification paper will not be mandatory for candidates from Barak Valley appearing for APSC examinations. The candidates can appear in Assamese, Bangla or Bodo languages. Further, APSC regulations was amended to remove restrictions on number of women members in APSC. These and several key decisions were adopted in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held on Wednesday at the administrative staff college in Khanapara, Guwahati.
The other key decisions which were taken during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday are:
- Bodo will be the Associate official language for the entire state of Assam.
- Bodo Kachari autonomous welfare Council will be outside 6th schedule area for welfare of Bodo community.
- BTR elections to be held within December. The cabinet will request the state election commission to schedule for the same.
- Conduct of public services’ recruitment examinations will no longer be outsourced to private agencies.
- From now onwards, five public universities will conduct the recruitment examinations, or, the respective department of the state government will hold the exams.
- Cabinet status will be given to the advocate general.
- Students of 428 tea gardens will be provided with free breakfast, lunch, and uniforms.
