Assam University Boosts Homestay Tourism
হোমস্টে পর্যটনে জোর আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৬ ডিসেম্বর : আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আতিথেয়তা ও পর্যটন ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগের উদ্যোগে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ডিফু ক্যাম্পাসে সম্প্রতি হোমস্টে নিয়ে তিনদিনের কর্মশালা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। কর্মশালার উদ্বোধন করেন ডিফু ক্যাম্পাসের সহ-উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক শিবাশিস বিশ্বাস। উদ্বোধনী ভাষণে তিনি ডিফু অঞ্চলে টেকসই পর্যটন মডেল হিসেবে হোমস্টের ক্রমবর্ধমান গুরুত্বের কথা তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন, হোমস্টে স্থানীয় সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্য সংরক্ষণের পাশাপাশি কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি, নারী ক্ষমতায়ন ও গ্রামীণ জীবিকায়ন উন্নয়নে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

এই কর্মশালাটি পরিচালিত হয় ডিএইচটিএম বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ও বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক সঞ্জীব কুমার সাক্সেনার নেতৃত্বে। আতিথেয়তা শিক্ষা ও কমিউনিটি-ভিত্তিক পর্যটনে তাঁর দীর্ঘ অভিজ্ঞতার আলোকে অধ্যাপক সাক্সেনা হোমস্টে মডেলকে আসামে অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক পর্যটন বিকাশের অন্যতম চালিকাশক্তি হিসেবে উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি বলেন, হোমস্টে পর্যটকদের জন্য স্থানীয় ও প্রামাণিক অভিজ্ঞতা নিশ্চিত করার পাশাপাশি স্থানীয় পরিবারের সরাসরি আর্থিক লাভের পথ খুলে দেয়। একইসঙ্গে তিনি গুণগত মান, উৎকৃষ্ট পরিষেবা ও টেকসই ব্যবস্থাপনার গুরুত্বের ওপর জোর দেন।

কর্মশালায় হোমস্টের ধারণা ও উপকারিতা, আসাম হোমস্টে নির্দেশিকা, কার্যকর যোগাযোগ দক্ষতা, পেশাদার গ্রুমিং, ফ্রন্ট অফিস পরিচালনা, নিরাপত্তা ব্যবস্থা, খাদ্য সুরক্ষা ও স্বাস্থ্যবিধি-সহ বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। সমাপ্তি অধিবেশনে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ডিফু ক্যাম্পাসের অধ্যাপক কে এইচ নরেন্দ্র সিংহ এই উদ্যোগের প্রশংসা করেন এবং অঞ্চলে হোমস্টে পর্যটনকে আরও শক্তিশালী করতে এর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদানের কথা উল্লেখ করেন। প্রাসঙ্গিক বক্তব্য রাখেন অধ্যাপক সৌমেন্দ্র নাথও।

Way2barak, December 26 : The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (DHTM), Assam University, organised a three-day workshop on homestays at the University’s Diphu Campus. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Sivasish Biswas, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Diphu Campus. In his inaugural address, Prof. Biswas highlighted the growing importance of homestays as a sustainable tourism model in the Diphu region. He noted that homestays play a significant role in preserving local culture and heritage while generating employment, empowering women, and strengthening rural livelihoods.

The workshop was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Saxena, Head of the DHTM Department. Drawing on his extensive experience in hospitality education and community-based tourism, Prof. Saxena described the homestay model as a key driver of inclusive tourism development in Assam. He stated that homestays not only offer tourists authentic local experiences but also ensure direct economic benefits for host families. He further emphasised the importance of quality standards, excellent service, and sustainable management practices.

Various important topics were discussed during the workshop, including the concept and benefits of homestays, Assam Homestay Guidelines, effective communication skills, professional grooming, front office operations, safety and security measures, food safety, and hygiene. At the valedictory session, Prof. K. H. Narendra Singh of Assam University Diphu Campus appreciated the initiative and underlined its significant contribution to strengthening homestay tourism in the region. Prof. Soumendra Nath also addressed the gathering on the occasion.
