July 24: In order to overcome the shortage of teachers in the schools of the state, Assam Government is contemplating to induct guest teachers to fill up the existing vacancies. Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu informed this and he added that there are presently 8000 posts of school teachers which are lying vacant across the state. The minister further informed that the Assam cabinet has already approved the proposal of appointing guest teachers.
In the initial stage, the government wants to implement the proposal by forming alumni associations in the schools and not by direct interference, informed Dr Ranoj Pegu. The alumni association will try to get guest teachers till permanent ones are appointed so that classes are not hampered.
The guest teachers will be provided a fixed amount as monthly remuneration. Dr Pegu further clarified that guest teachers will be different from the contract teachers, who are already working in thousands of schools across the state.
