Amid Covid-19 surge, Maharashtra postpones Class X & XII state Board exams

April 12: Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad in a video statement issued on her social media handle informed that the class 10th and 12th state board examinations in the state have been postponed due to the spike in COVID-19 cases. “We’ve postponed state board exams for class 10th and 12th. Class 12th exams will be held by end of May, while 10th standard exams will be in June. Fresh dates will be announced accordingly,” she stated.

“We’ll also be writing to the CBSE, ICSE, IB, Cambridge boards, requesting them to reconsider their exams dates,” added the School Education Minister. As per the now-scrapped schedule, Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams for class 10th students were to be held from April 29 to May 20, via the offline mode, and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams for Class 12th were to be conducted from April 23 to May 21.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported its highest-ever single-day spike of coronavirus cases as the state added over 63,000 positive cases in the last 24 hours. With 63,294 new Covid-19 cases, the state now has 34,07,245 cases since the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
