After Centre, Assam govt also reduces VAT on petrol & diesel each by ₹7

From now onwards, petrol will cost Rs.12 less and diesel Rs. 17 less in Assam

Nov. 3: The Govt of India on Wednesday announced an excise duty reduction on petrol and diesel. Excise duty on Petrol and Diesel will be reduced by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from Thursday. Further, the States have been urged by the Centre to reduce value added tax (VAT) on both the fuels to give relief to consumers.

Responding to the call of the Union Government, Assam Government also acted promptly. Within a few hours of the appeal by the Centre, Assam Government announced to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7 with immediate effect.

Taking to his twitter handle, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Heartening to learn Central Govt decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. In consonance with the decision of Honble PM @narendramodi, I am pleased to announce that Assam Govt will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7/- with immediate effect.”

That means, from now onwards, petrol will cost Rs.12 less and diesel Rs. 17 less in Assam. This will indeed be a great relief to the people of the state during the Diwali festival.
