Barak Valley registers 165 Covid +ve cases on Thursday, 628 discharged & 3 deaths recorded

There are 2,582 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 24: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was considerably less. A total of 165 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 628 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 2,582 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 307 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 96 positive cases   (It was 129 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 58 positive cases (It was 67 on Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 11 positive cases (It was 12 on Wednesday)

 A total of 96 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 7,079 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 75 persons were found positive, whereas 21 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,087, whereas during this phase, 15,545 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,378.  Also, 387 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 23 June to 5 PM on 24 June) witnessed demise of 03 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 3 deceased, 02 are from Karimganj district and 01 from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Fakar Uddin (65) from Ramkrishnagar in Karimganj district, Dipti Biswas (76) from Link Road, Silchar and Altaf Uddin (80) from Asimganj in Karimganj district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 24 June, there were 130 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 68 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 62 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 11 patients were put under ventilator support and 98 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 32 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 28 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered only 11 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Of the 11 positive cases detected on Thursday, 11 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas none were found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 375 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,245 RAT tests and 238 RT-PCR tests were done. 61 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,427. As of now, a total of 3,635 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 12 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Wednesday.

Karimganj registered 58 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The district has currently 829 active COVID-19 cases, while 180 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 4,182 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 67 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Wednesday.

On Thursday, out of 1,24,019 tests, 2,781 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,93,688. The positivity rate in the state is 2.24 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 162 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 34 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,344. The recovery rate is 92.84 percent. On Thursday, 3,604 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,58,330 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. The recovery rate in the state is 92.84 percent.  At present, there are 29,667 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 34 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 34 deceased, 05 are from Jorhat; 04 each from Kamrup Metro, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon & Tinsukia; 02 each in Charaideo, Darrang & Hojai; 01 each in Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Karimganj, Morigaon, Sivasagar & Sonitpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,344.
