Barak Valley registers 548 Covid +ve cases on Monday, 589 discharged & 6 deaths at SMCH

There are 5,587 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 7: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 548 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 589 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 5,587 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 400 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 380 positive cases   (It was 301 on Sunday)
  • Karimganj: 93 positive cases (It was 31 on Sunday)
  • Hailakandi: 75 positive cases (It was 68 on Sunday)

A total of 380 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 9,834 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 237 persons were found positive, whereas 143 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 13,158 whereas during this phase, 9,834 patients were discharged.

Also, 372 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,200.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 6 June to 5 PM on 7 June) witnessed demise of 06 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 6 deceased, 05 are from Cachar district, while 01 is from Karimganj district.

The deceased were identified as Satish Biswas (65) from Dolu in Cachar, Rahim Uddin Barbhuiya (40) from NIT Silchar, Sudhir Das (72) from Udharbond in Cachar, Hawarunnesha (65) from Patherkandi in Karimganj district, Pran Chandra Dushad (83) from Silcorrie, Cachar and Sheetal Das (66) from Rongpur, Silchar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 7 June, there were 231 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 99 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 132 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 30 patients were put under ventilator support and 134 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 34 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 45 of them were discharged. Further, 29 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 75 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 75 positive cases detected on Monday, 74 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 01 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,251 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,310 RAT tests and 262 RT-PCR tests were done. 105 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,814. As of now, a total of 2,159 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 68 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday.

As of now, in the 57,361 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,800 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 93 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The district has currently 1,136 active COVID-19 cases, while 112 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Monday. 3,789 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 31 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Sunday.

On Monday, out of 1,24,316 tests, 3,804 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,38,746. The positivity rate in the state is 3.06 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 318 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 37 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,695. On Monday, 4,613 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,85,032 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  The recovery rate is 87.76 percent. At present, there are 48,672 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 37 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 37 deceased, 04 each are from Cachar, Jorhat & Dibrugarh; 03 each from Jorhat & Morigaon; 02 each from Bongaigaon, Kamrup Metro, Kokhrajhar, Lakhimpur & Sonitpur; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Kamrup Rural, Nalbari, Sivasagar & Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,695.
