‘Adwitiya’ along with ‘NCYS’ stands beside disadvantaged people during Covid crisis

Journey of a Facebook group from virtual world to real world

June 6: The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent Covid curfew imposed in the state has rendered many without work. Last year too, there has been a widespread debate between life and livelihood during the nationwide lockdown. Though this year, total lockdown was not imposed in Assam, yet many had to remain without income. Many good Samaritans during this crisis phase have come forward to stand besides the poor and needy and offered help to their best possible extent. Once such all-ladies group, ‘Adwitiya – Celebrating Womanhood’ came forward and distributed nutritious cooked food packets at Arcuttipore Tea Estate in Cachar district.

On Sunday afternoon, ‘Adwitiya – Celebrating Womanhood’ alongwith ‘Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangshta’ (NCYS) went to  Arcuttipore Tea Estate and distributed cooked food packets, hand sanitisers and face masks among the children and women, most of whom work in the tea garden.

Expressing her views, Sharmistha Bhattacharjee of ‘Adwitiya’ said, “We are an all-ladies Facebook group based in Silchar. At this hour of crisis, we decided to come out of the virtual world and stand besides the disadvantaged populace staying in the vicinity of Silchar in our own little way. We are also grateful to NCYS for lending a helping hand in our noble mission. Today, we have provided food and other items to around 70 women & children in a tea garden. We do hope to try and extend help to those in need in the near future also.”

Present during this noble mission on behalf of ‘Adwitiya – Celebrating Womanhood’ were Sharmistha Bhattacharjee, Rahi Chakraborty, Sayani Das & Moumita Gupta. On behalf of  ‘Netaji Chatra Yuba Sangshta’ (NCYS), Dilu Das, Bappi Acharjee, Amarjit Kumar, Amalendu Das, Dipankar Das were present. They were helped on behalf of the local panchayat by Sudarshan Kurmi, Kedar Goala and others.
