3 Covid-19 patients die at SMCH in last 24 hours

98 patients in ICU, 27 in ventilator support & 142 put under oxygen at SMCH

June 6: Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 5 June to 5 PM on 6 June) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 3 deceased, 02 are from Cachar district, while 01 is from Hailakandi. The deceased were identified as:

  • Gyas Uddin Choudhury (55) from Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 1 June. He, however, passed away at 10.20 PM on 5 June.
  • Dinomoni Singha (76) from Dolu in Cachar took admission at SMCH on 5 June. He breathed his last 4 AM on 6 June.
  • Safa Begum Barbhuiya (55) from Kabuganj in Cachar got admitted at SMCH on 5 June. She expired at 2.50 PM on 6 June.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 6 June, there were 248 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 98 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 150 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 27 patients were put under ventilator support and 142 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 37 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 24 of them were discharged. Further, 48 of them have opted for home isolation.
