DSP (Border) of Dhubri arrested for alleged nexus with smugglers

May 31: In what seems to be a surprising development, those appointed to nab the criminals and anti-social elements were found to be involved with them in Assam. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border), Dhubri, Jatin Das was held for his alleged links with drugs smugglers. Based on credible information about the alleged nexus of the accused Jatin Chandra Das, DySP (B) Dhubri with smugglers, several raids have been conducted yesterday night by Dhubri Police and seized unaccounted cash 4 lakh 77 thousand.

Further, a wanted drugs smuggler named Rafikul Paramanik alias Opi has also been arrested along with the accused Assam Police DSP. A case has been registered against both the accused at Dhubri police station (Case No – Dhubri PS case no 881/21) under section 120B/409 IPC RW sec 7a /12 of Prevention of Corruption Act. As per sources, both of them have been produced before the court.

Taking to his twitter handle on 31 May, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta wrote, “We are taking our fight for a #DrugFreeAssam a notch higher! Govt of Assam on 29 May, issued orders under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act to take 6 high profile drug traffickers under Preventive Detention.”

In another tweet, the DGP wrote, “Bad news for them, as under this act detainees can be kept in jail for upto 1yr without bail. Our message to drug dealers is clear, “Clean up your act, don’t repeat. ‘coz, when we catch you, you’ll be going in for a long time.”
