Barak Valley registers 808 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 509 discharged & 11 deaths recorded

Active cases 5,520 in Barak Valley

May 29: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 808 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 831 positive cases. At present, there are 5,520 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. Further, a total of 509 patients were discharged after recovery from the 3 districts of the valley on Friday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 513 positive cases   (It was 534 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 137 positive cases (It was 149 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 158 positive cases (It was 148 on Friday)

A total of 513 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. AAs per the updated data, a total of 7,236 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 384 persons were found positive, whereas 129 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Saturday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 9,565 in 2021, whereas during the year, 6,285 patients were discharged. Also, 403 patients were discharged during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,194.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 27 May to 5 PM on 28 May) witnessed demise of 11 more Covid-19 positive patients including 2 children at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and South City Hospital. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. Out of the 11 deceased, 06 are from Cachar district, 03 from Karimganj & 02 from Hailakandi.

The deceased at SMCH were identified as Rajen Ahmed Laskar (40) from Dhanehari, Part-II, Cachar, Dhirendra Chandra Das (72) from Majpara in Karimganj district, Ritesh Kumar (15 months) from Motinagar in Cachar, Ayaz Uddin Laskar (60) from Meherpur, Silchar, Mani Palam Mali (93) from Badarpur in Karimganj,  Chandan Paul (63) from Durga Shankar Lane, Ambicapatty, Silchar, Lila Nath (67) from Lala in Hailakandi district, Surajit Singha (39) also from Lala in Hailakandi, Tanvir Jaman (03 months) from Ashimganj in Karimganj district and Dwijendra Chakraborty (78) from Rangirkhari, Silchar.

Dr Sukumar Sinha (80) from Kanakpur Road, Silchar was admitted at South City Hospital on 23 May. He, however, passed away at 11.30 PM on 27 May.

Hailakandi registered 158 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 158 positive cases detected on Saturday, 137 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 21 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,238 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,306 RAT tests and 374 RT-PCR tests were done. 09 patients were discharged during the day. It needs mention here that 148 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,032.

As of now, in the 53,419 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,235 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 137 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 137 active cases detected on Saturday, 134 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 03 under RT-PCR. The district has currently 1,088 active COVID-19 cases, while 97 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 3,319 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 149 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,16,562 tests, 5,613 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,03,623. The positivity rate in the state is 4.82 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 580 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 77 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,245.

Further, during the day, 77 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 77 deceased, 11 are from Tinsukia; 07 from Cachar; 05 each from Barpeta, Kamrup Metro & Nagaon; 04 each from Dibrugarh & Karbi Anglong; 03 each from Baksa, Darrang, Dhubri, Jorhat, Sivasagar & Sonitpur; 02 each from Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup Rural, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Lakhimpur & Morigaon; 01 each from Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dima Hasao, Golaghat & South Salmara. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,245.
