Test, track & treat- key strategies to control Covid, says PM Modi during meeting with CMs

April 8: Test. Track. Treat. Follow COVID appropriate behaviour. Focus on COVID management. These were the highlights of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech during his virtual meet with the Chief Ministers on Thursday evening. The Prime minister was taking stock of the COVID-19 situation in the country. The Prime Minister urged chief ministers to strengthen their efforts for the next 2-3 weeks to check the spread of the virus on a “war-footing”.

Addressing the meeting, PM Modi said that India is once again facing a challenging situation and urged the states to give suggestions for tackling the latest surge in Covid-19 case. “People have become lax. The cases are rising because administrations are also lax. We must work on war footing to defeat coronavirus,” the PM said. He said that last year India did not have PPE kits, labs or vaccines. The only solution was lockdown to buy time to increase health infrastructure, he said. “Now, we have health infrastructure and vaccines,” he said.

“We must concentrate on micro-containment zones. In places where night curfew has been imposed, I would urge to use the word ‘Corona Curfew’, to continue alertness about coronavirus. It will be better to start curfew timing from 9 pm or 10 pm till 5 am or 6 am,” said PM Modi. “I appeal to you all to stress on COVID19 testing. Our target is to do 70% RT-PCR tests. Let the number of positive cases come high, but do maximum testing. Proper sample collection is very important, it can be checked through proper governance,” said the Prime Minister.

People have become complacent, said the PM. This is a major reason for escalation in the number of cases. So the main focus should be on testing.
