New Twist: Facebook withdraws label of “False Information” from Himanta’s ‘Pakistan Zindabad’post

Nov. 9: A huge controversy surfaced with allegations of “Pakistan Zindabad” slogan by some supporters of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) at Silchar Airport on Thursday while greeting party chief and MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal. In his Facebook Page, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a video clip on Friday, which was, however, affixed a water-mark label by the social media giant Facebook stating “False Information” on Saturday.

Just after 2 days of affixing the label of “False Information,” the episode took a new twist as the social media giant “Facebook” on 9 November, withdrew the water-mark label of “False Information” from that particluar post of Assam BJP heavyweight leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Earlier on Saturday, while affixing the label on Himanta’s post, Facebook wrote, “Independent fact-checkers say that this information has no basis in fact.”

Taking to her twitter handle, a twitterati wrote, “Those celebrated claiming #facebook flagged Sir @himantabiswa‘s video as fake/doctored, the shouting of Pakistan Zindabad in AIUDF President Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal’s rally..& by few Foreign funded independent Fact checker should know #SatyamevaJayate always win. Video is back.” This tweet was also shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma in his tweeter today.

The incident of alleged “Pakistan Zindabad” slogan have triggered protests across Assam and multiple FIR’s were lodged including one by Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy. The AIUDF, has, however, denied the allegation and said that party supporters raised the slogan of Aziz Khan Jindabad” (AIUDF MLA of South Karimganj) and not “Pakistan Zindabad” as claimed. Meanwhile, acting on the FIR’s, Cachar Police has already started an investigation. Additional Police Super of Cachar, Jagadish Das told media that “Investigation is underway, we will take action.”
