KBS Kolkata Sylheti Welfare Association urges all Sylheti’s in Kolkata to become members

Sept. 20: Kolkata Sylheti group in Kolkata is registered and renamed as KBS Kolkata Sylheti Welfare association on 26 September 2019. Kolkata Sylheti group was formed in January 2017 comprising of like-minded Sylheti’s located in Kolkata mainly from North East India. The main idea of this group is to have Sylheti association in Kolkata where people can feel the sense of belonging, speak Sylheti and feel the warmth experience of Sylheti culture.

Gradually, Kolkata Sylheti Facebook group was also formed. Initially, the WhatsApp group comprised of few founder members but with time, it grew and the response received was tremendous as it is a free style adda where members express their views just as one does in a family . This group started with a picnic in January 2017 so that all the members can meet with each other and then had a successful cultural function in memory of Late Kalika Prasad on 25 March 2017 at Indumoti Bhawan in Jadavpur university.

The group is also involved into various socio- cultural activities since the last 3 years. The group is growing and has now more than 1000 plus Sylheti members involved in this group residing in Kolkata. The group organizes various programs, such as, Poila Baisakh, Bijoya Sammilani, Basanta Utsav etc. After registration, the working committee of the association announced several upcoming socio- cultural & philanthropic activities which will enlighten all Sylheti’s of North East and other states residing in Kolkata.

The group has formed a executive body of 10 members, who are Rajat Gupta (President), Tilak Deb Roy ( General Secretary), Santanu Roy (Vice President), Shibdas Goswami, Soumyadeep Choudhury, Banibrata Das, Prabal Bhattacharjee, Sumanta Dutta Choudhury Pratim Das and Subhrajit Purkayastha.
