COVID-19: Meghalaya to close all entry points for a week for 3 months from September

August 20: The state government of Meghalaya has decided to close all entry points to the state for 1 week every month in the next 3 months. The one-week period for closing down of all the entry points is from 1st to 7th day of every month, meaning, every first week of every month from September to November.

In a tweet, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote, “Government has decided to close all entry points to #Meghalaya for 1 week every month in the next 3 months starting Sept 2020. This is being done to unburden our health, frontline workers, and the respective District Administration engaged in intensive surveillance for Covid 19.”

Meghalaya Deputy Chief MinisterPrestone Tynsong urged all returnees to bear with the government taking into consideration the pressure being faced by frontline workers by not coming back to the state from 1^st to 7^th of every month.

On Thursday, Meghalaya recorded the highest single-day spike in COVID19 with 126 new positive cases, taking the state’s tally to 1,661. The 126 new COVID19 positive cases include one doctor and four nurses from Ganesh Das Government Hospital, and 41 persons who tested positive during random testing. With 126 new cases, there are now 925 active cases in Meghalaya. Till now, the state has registered 6 deaths due to COVID-19.
