Barak Valley registers 370 positive cases on Tuesday

August 18: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases again was on the rise in the valley. A total of 370 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 340 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 244 positive cases   (It was 236 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 84 positive cases (It was 66 on Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 42 positive cases (It was 38 on Monday)

On Tuesday, once again, the number of coronavirus cases in Cachar increased. Cachar registered 244 fresh cases of COVID-19, out of which, 215 persons were detected positive as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, the rest were found positive in RT-PCR Test. A total of 1473 rapid tests were done in the district on Monday. With this, the district tally of coronavirus positive cases has reached 4473 as of now.

“244 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive during the day.” This was informed in a routine tweet by State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday night. However, as per the data provided by district health department, 215 persons were informed as detected positive on Tuesday.

Further, till now, 4387 patients were infected with coronavirus in Cachar district. As of now, 2739 persons got cured and were discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care Centres. At present, there are 2739 active cases in Cachar. The district registered 16 deaths due to COVID-19 as of now. Two persons from Cachar were declared by State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 deaths. The deceased were identified as Subhas Chandra Acharjee (75) from Ambicapatty and Pradip Kumar Singh (55) from Bahadurpur in Cachar.

42 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 1,729. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 42 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 41 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and one under RT-PCR.

Altogether 831 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,265 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 453. Four COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Seven deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board.

Karimganj district registered 84 new COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday. Out of 84 positive cases, 52 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 32 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. Further, 18 persons were discharged during the day. Till now, 1689 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj, out of which, 892 patients have recovered. At present, there are 797 active cases in the district.

A total of 892 rapid tests were done in Karimganj on Tuesday. Moreover, another person from the district died due to coronavirus. Saif Uddin (39) from Kanaishail in Karimganj got admitted at Green Heals Hospital in Silchar with Covid Pneumonia, but he died on Tuesday. His death was also confirmed by the Death Audit Board as COVID-19 Death on Tuesday night.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2534 persons tested positive in Assam on Tuesday, thereby taking the state tally to 82,201. As of now, there are 23,701 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1560 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 58,294 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 6 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 203.

India saw 55,079 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 875 deaths, the lowest in nearly a week, in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s case count to 2,702,742, according to the Union health ministry data. There has been a decline in the daily number of Covid-19 cases for the last three days–there were 63,490 infections last Sunday and 57,981 on Monday, the health ministry’s data showed. The health ministry’s dashboard showed that the number recovered patients climbed to 1,977,779 as 57,937 people were cured of Covid-19 between Monday and Tuesday morning. With that, India’s recovery rate climbed to 73.17%.
