Hailakandi district secures good overall Delta ranking; gets additional allocation of Rs.8 crore from NITI Aayog

August 1: NITI Aayog has allocated an additional Rs 8 crore to South Assam’s aspirational district Hailakandi for securing a good overall Delta ranking for the month of January-February 2020. In a communique received on Friday, NITI Aayog said the additional allocation of Rs 8 crore has been made to Hailakandi for securing good overall Delta ranking through the challenge method under the Aspirational Districts Programme.

Besides Hailakandi, another aspirational district of Assam, Darrang has been allocated additional fund to the tune of Rs.3 crore for putting up a good performance in basic infrastructure sector during the same period. NITI Aayog has asked the districts to prepare a plan of action vis-a-vis project proposals as per the scheme guidelines in consultation with the State and Central Prabhari Officers and submit the proposals for final approval of the Empowered Committee of Secretaries constituted for the Aspirational Districts Programme. The policy think-tank has constituted a Project Management Unit (PMU) comprising a team of ADB and UNDP experts to assist the districts in formulation of projects.

NITI Aayog has asked the Deputy Commissioners concerned to submit the plan of action vis-a-vis project proposals to the PMU via the recently upgraded ‘Champions of Change’ portal latest by September 30 for availing the additional allocation.
