Barak Valley registers 126 positive cases on Sunday

July 19: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Sunday, a total of 126 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, a total of 29 patients were discharged from the three districts of Barak Valley on Sunday. Cachar also recorded the first official death due to COVID-19 during the day. What seemed to be more an incident of panic is that 19 persons were detected as positive from Janiganj area of Silchar alone during the day. Health department officials were apprehensive that more positive patients may be detected from that area.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday:

  • Cachar: 98 positive cases
  • Karimganj: 19 positive cases
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases

Another 4 persons in Assam have lost their lives after being infected with coronavirus on Sunday. With this the death toll due to COVID-19 has gone upto 57 in the state. Out of the 4 persons who died on Sunday due to COVID-19 is a jawan of Assam Rifles in Cachar. The  jawan of Assam Rifles was admitted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) around 11.40 PM on Saturday. He was tested COVID-19 positive by Rapid Antigen Test. However, the jawan died within a hour. He was identified as S.K. Wagle (46) of Assam Rifles, Cachar.

Apart from the valley, the state too recorded a huge number of positive cases of Saturday. 1018 persons tested positive in Assam on Sunday, thereby taking the state tally to 23,999. As of now, there are 7916 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 858 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 16,023 persons were discharged in Assam.
