Unauthorized access point blocked permanently at SMCH, Teachers’ Association express satisfaction

July 11: For a considerably long period of time, the security situation within SMCH campus was in a highly compromised state. Innumerable incidences of burglary, theft, snatching, two-wheeler lifting, eve-teasing and other criminal activities had been taking place. The root cause behind the rapidly deteriorating security situation was unauthorized access point through a gap in the boundary wall on the eastern flank of the campus. Criminals and miscreants found this thoroughfare very convenient as an escape route. Finally, the unauthorized access point has been sealed permanently. This was stated in a press release issued by Dr. Dolly Roy, President & Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh, General secretary of Silchar Medical College Teacher’s Association (SMCTA) on Saturday.

They also expressed gratitude and support to Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli and all other administrative officials “for the colossal positive role they have played in permanently blocking this unauthorized access point, which seemed to be an insurmountable problem lingering for years.”

In the press release, they also sated that,  “Many a times in the past, demands had been raised from various quarters such as Students’ Union, Junior Doctors’ Association, Teachers’ Association, for permanently blocking this unauthorized access point. However. this could not be done due to pressure from certain sections that had a vested interest in keeping this access point open. As a result, security and safety within the campus gradually worsened.” Now as this unauthorized access point has been permanently closed, Silchar Medical College Teacher’s Association also expressed thanks to Aminul Haque Laskar, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.

The SMCTA further mentioned that certain sections in the society have been spreading misinformation knowingly or unknowingly about various issues related to SMCH including standards of COVID related healthcare service. In the press release, SMCTA wrote, “Such activities, at a time, when we are confronting a crisis situation and trying our utmost to deliver the best possible service, would only serve to demoralize the health workers and covid warriors. We welcome constructive criticism from enlightened citizens. At the same time, we strongly condemn criticisms that are not based on ground realities and facts. We also condemn the spreading of false information and lies by certain sections who probably have vested interests.” The SMCTA appealed to all section of citizens to act and behave in ways that would help in preventing the further spread of the pandemic and to act as a force-multiplier factor for the healthcare delivery system and the workers involved in this process.
