Former MP Sushmita Dev tests COVID-19 positive

July 8: Former MP and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev tested COVID-19 positive on Wednesday. Speaking to way2barak, Sushmita Dev confirmed the news but at the same time she also expressed surprise at the development that took place since today morning. She said, “On Wednesday morning, Babul Bezbarua, Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) rang me and informed that my swab result is negative.”

She then added that, “After a while, Principal of SMCH called me again and said that my swab test showed some problems and so it is being re-run in the lab. He also said that if need arises, then I may again have to take the trouble of giving my swab sample. I assured him full cooperation. After that, there was no correspondence from him anymore. But little ago, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli rang me and informed that I was tested positive and I should go to SMCH.”

My report as signed by Department of Microbiology, Silchar Medical College, Cachar, Assam says I have tested positive for COVID 19. I am asymptomatic as of now. I thank everyone for their concern & calls. 🙏🏻

Sushmita Dev expressed dissatisfaction at the way things happened with her. She said, “I am still unable to understand why there are so many contradictory things going on with my swab test. Once I am informed that I am negative, then again, I was told about re-run of my swab and later I was declared to be positive.”

Meanwhile, MP Rajdeep Roy, also confirmed this news and said that “Indeed it is very unfortunate information.”

As per sources, Sushmita Dev came in contact with COVID-19 positive patient Rudra Narayan Gupta, MD of Green Heals hospital.
