Rs.99,000 rupees realised by way of fines on single day

July 1: With spike in COVID-19 positive cases, the Hailakandi district police is ruthlessly enforcing wearing of mask or face cover to arrest the spread of the contagious disease. Disclosing this, Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath said a total of Rs 99,100 has been realised by way of fines on a single day by the district police against offenders for non wearing of masks or face cover and for pillion riding on Tuesday. Rs.47,500 have been realised for not wearing masks while Rs.51,600 for pillion riding under six police stations across the district.

Nath further revealed that a policeman has been penalised and fine realised for breaking law vis-a-vis non wearing of mask and pillion riding. “We will ruthlessly enforce wearing of masks and other rules and regulations in view of the COVID-19 outbreak and will not even spare our own police personnel if found on the wrong side of the law,” said Nath.

The district police have seized 672 vehicles, including six for lockdown violations on Tuesday. 591 two wheelers, 37 three wheelers and 44 four wheelers have been seized so far. Total fine realised under the Motor Vehicle Act since beginning of lockdown is 6,19,950. Altogether 58 cases have been registered and 277 persons arrested since the beginning of lockdown.

Nath said that the police is keeping a close watch on fake news, rumours and posts on social media and would take stern action against those vitiating the atmosphere by creating fear or panic. Eight cases have been registered for misuse of social media and three persons apprehended.

The district police chief stated that the district borders with Karimganj and Cachar have been opened for inter-district movement subject to proper screening. The inter-state border with Mizoram has been partially opened for incoming people of Assam and for emergency services after thorough medical screening. “No person came from Mizoram side during the last 24 hours through the inter-state border via Bhairabi- Ramnathpur route,” he added.
Nath said movement of people and vehicles except emergency services and exempted categories have been fully restricted from 7 pm to 7 am.
