Review meeting on child rights protection held in Silchar

June 20: A review meeting on child rights protection was held at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner Cachar on Saturday. The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli in presence of the member of Assam State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights,Ajay Kumar Dutta. All the officials of concerned departments including District child protection office, Childline, social welfare, education, police, tea association, labour commissioner, food and civil supply, Zila Parishad Silchar and health were present in the meeting.

In her welcome address, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said “All the concerned departments have to coordinate and cooperate with the District Administration Cachar to carry out the necessary steps to protect the child rights in the district and to take appropriate actions in this regard”. She laid stress on the condition of children who are being affected by the lockdown during the COVID -19 period and also urged all the departments to eliminate menace of child labourers from the district and to take proper care for detection of such cases in the district.

Echoing similar thoughts, Member of Assam State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, Ajay Kumar Dutta also specifically asked the P&RD Department to register the migrants labourers who have come back to the District during the lockdown period and give job opportunities to them. He also suggested to engage the migrant labourers to MGNERAGA related works and asked the District Elementary Education Officer to take appropriate action for the drop out children in the tea garden areas.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Social welfare) Lolita Rongpipi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Supply) A.R Majumder, District Social Welfare Officer Rajkumar Kedia.
