In line with PM Modi’s Act East Policy, CM Sonowal presses for more international flights from Guwahati
July 6: Keeping in view Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East Policy, Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal met Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri and discussed on a range of issues to further improve air connectivity in Assam and the Northeast.
Assam Chief Minister requested Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation to allow hopping flights with two destinations – Guwahati-Mumbai-Dubai or Delhi-Guwahati-Bangkok. He stated that the hopping flights will not just give a boost to international connectivity to Guwahati city but also make the place a hub of trade and commerce with ASEAN countries. He also discussed timely completion of the revival project of Rupsi Airport in Dhubri.

Just recently, direct flight between Guwahati and Dhaka was launched. Sonwal now pressed the Civil Aviation Minister to start flight connectivity from Guwahati to Singapore, Kaula Lumpur, Yangon, Kathmandu and Hanoi.
