Assam govt to set up 10 more detention centres in the state
June 16:With the deadline of declaration of final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) approaching near, Assam Government is contemplating to set up 10 more detention centres in the state for confining ‘illegal foreigners. There are assumptions that the number of illegal foreigners will increase so the construction of more detention centres has been planned.
At present, there are six detention camps operating in the state. The state government has already decided the sites where the new detention centres will be constructed. They are just waiting for the final approval from the concerned authorities. Meanwhile, another detention camp is being constructed at Goalpara at a cost of 46 crore which can hold over 3000 illegal inmates.
