Fany: Ferry services plying over Barak & Brahmaputra suspended till 5 May

May 3: In view of the cyclonic storm ‘Fani’, Rahul Chandra Das, Director, Inland Water Transport (IWT), Assam in an office order directed all vessel staff on board of ferry vessels, commercial vessels, bargees, pantoons, T.F. Pusher etc. to remain vigilant and alert in watching over the boats, vessels etc. against their place of posting so that all precautionary measures are adopted well ahead of time and to ensure that the departmental boats/vessels/barges etc. with equipment under them are strictly protected.

It was further directed that the vessels/boats must be properly equipped with the life saving, fire fighting and mooring materials for securing of the vessels/boats in order to meet any unforeseen situation and to avoid any casualty. The officer-in-charges of the ferry ghats/commercial service/construction site/workshop were requested to remain vigilant regarding the maintenance/mooring/securing of boats/vessels under them.

In the same office order issued on 3 May, 2019, the Director of IWT notified that ferry services shall be suspended from plying over Brahmaputra and Barak till 5 May, 2019 with immediate effect.
