Assam University Celebrates National Space Day with Scientific Exhibitions and Student Competitions
মহাকাশের বিস্ময় ও বিজ্ঞানচর্চায় জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবস উদযাপন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২৪ আগস্ট : শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে বিজ্ঞানমনস্কতা ও মহাকাশবিজ্ঞান সম্পর্কে আগ্রহ গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্যে বিভিন্ন বৈজ্ঞানিক প্রদর্শনী, প্রতিযোগিতা ও পর্যবেক্ষণমূলক কর্মসূচির মধ্য দিয়ে সোমবার আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগে পালিত হল জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবস। অনুষ্ঠানে স্কুল, কলেজ ও স্নাতকোত্তর স্তরের দেড় শতাধিক শিক্ষার্থী এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন বিভাগের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকারা অংশ নেন। বিভাগীয় মেঘনাদ সাহা সম্মেলন কক্ষে আয়োজিত এই অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ, ত্রিপুরা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগের প্রধান অতিথি ড. রতন দাস, বিশিষ্ট মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন, পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস, অনুষ্ঠানের সমন্বয়ক ড. স্বর্ণদীপ বিশ্বাস প্রমুখ। উদ্বোধনী পর্বে বক্তারা মহাকাশবিজ্ঞান, গবেষণা ও বিজ্ঞানচর্চার গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন। পরে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন ড. দেবলীনা পাল।

এদিনের অনুষ্ঠানের অন্যতম আকর্ষণ ছিল বিজ্ঞান মডেল প্রদর্শনী। আটটি বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীদের তৈরি ২৪টি উদ্ভাবনী মডেল প্রদর্শনীতে স্থান পায়। এর মধ্যে বিক্রম অবতরণযানের প্রতিকৃতি, উৎক্ষেপণ রকেট, মঙ্গলযান এবং সৌরজগতের বিভিন্ন গ্রহের মডেল বিশেষভাবে নজর কাড়ে। প্রদর্শনীর বিচারকের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন ড. বিধান মহন্ত ও ড. মহানন্দা বড়ো। এছাড়াও নবম থেকে দ্বাদশ শ্রেণির শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য আয়োজিত হয় তাৎক্ষণিক বক্তৃতা প্রতিযোগিতা। এতে ৩৩ জন শিক্ষার্থী অংশ নেয়। বিচারকের দায়িত্বে ছিলেন অধ্যাপক উৎপল সরকার, অধ্যাপক বি. আই. শর্মা এবং ড. দেবলীনা পাল।

কলেজ ও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্তরের শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য আয়োজিত মৌখিক উপস্থাপনা প্রতিযোগিতায় ১৫ জন স্নাতক শিক্ষার্থী বিভিন্ন বৈজ্ঞানিক বিষয়ে বক্তব্য উপস্থাপন করেন। প্রতিযোগিতার বিচারক ছিলেন অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য।
এদিকে দিনভর শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য মহাকাশ ও গ্রহ-নক্ষত্র বিষয়ক বিভিন্ন প্রদর্শনী ও গ্রহালয় প্রদর্শনের আয়োজন করা হয়। জাতীয় মহাকাশ দিবস উপলক্ষে মূল অনুষ্ঠানের আগের দিন, ২৩ আগস্ট সন্ধ্যায় বিশেষ ‘রাত্রিকালীন আকাশ পর্যবেক্ষণ’ কর্মসূচিরও আয়োজন করেছিল পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগ।

দিনব্যাপী কর্মসূচির সমাপ্তি অনুষ্ঠানে পৌরোহিত্য করেন অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন। তাঁর সঙ্গে মঞ্চে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সংশ্লিষ্ট অনুষদের ডিন অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য, পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস ও ড. স্বর্ণদীপ বিশ্বাস। সমাপনী অনুষ্ঠানে গবেষক মনস্বিনী চক্রবর্তীর মনোজ্ঞ নৃত্য পরিবেশনা অনুষ্ঠানে সাংস্কৃতিক আবহ যোগ করে। পরে বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতার বিজয়ীদের হাতে পুরস্কার তুলে দেওয়া হয়। সমগ্র অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন সঞ্চালী নাথ মজুমদার ও ডেইটি বসুমাতারি।

Way2barak, August 24 : National Space Day was celebrated at the Department of Physics, Assam University, Silchar, on Monday with a series of scientific exhibitions, competitions and observation programmes aimed at fostering scientific temper and encouraging students’ interest in space science. More than 150 students from school, college and postgraduate levels, along with faculty members from various departments of the university, participated in the programme.

The event, organised at the Meghnad Saha Conference Hall of the Department of Physics, was attended by Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajeev Mohan Pant, Dr. Ratan Das, Head of the Department of Physics, Tripura University, Prof. Ashok Kumar Sen, eminent space scientist, Prof. Himadri Shekhar Das, Head of the Department of Physics, and Dr. Swarnadip Biswas, Coordinator of the programme, among others. During the inaugural session, the speakers highlighted the importance of space science, research and scientific pursuits. Dr. Debolina Pal proposed the vote of thanks.

One of the major attractions of the programme was the science model exhibition. A total of 24 innovative models prepared by students from eight schools were displayed. Models of the Vikram lander, launch rockets, Mangalyaan and various planets of the solar system particularly drew attention. Dr. Bidhan Mahanta and Dr. Mahananda Boro served as judges for the exhibition.

An extempore speech competition was also organised for students of Classes IX to XII, with 33 students participating. Prof. Utpal Sarkar, Prof. B. I. Sharma and Dr. Debolina Pal served as judges. An oral presentation competition for college and university students saw 15 undergraduate students presenting on various scientific topics. Prof. Atri Deshmukhya was the judge for the competition.

Throughout the day, students were offered various exhibitions on space, planets and celestial bodies, along with planetarium shows. As part of the National Space Day celebrations, the Department of Physics had also organised a special night-sky observation programme on the evening of August 23, a day ahead of the main event.

The concluding ceremony of the day-long programme was presided over by Prof. Ashok Kumar Sen. He was joined on the dais by Prof. Atri Deshmukhya, Dean of the concerned faculty, Prof. Himadri Shekhar Das, Head of the Department of Physics, and Dr. Swarnadip Biswas. A graceful dance performance by research scholar Manaswini Chakraborty added a cultural dimension to the closing ceremony. The winners of the various competitions were subsequently presented with prizes. The programme was anchored by Sanchali Nath Majumdar and Deity Basumatary.
