Assam University Hosts a Workshop on Extreme Rainfall & Risk Management
আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ‘অত্যধিক বৃষ্টিপাত ও ঝুঁকি ব্যবস্থাপনা’ শীর্ষক কর্মশালার উদ্বোধন

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ৯ ফেব্রুয়ারি : উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলের আবহাওয়ার ক্রমবর্ধমান অনিশ্চয়তার প্রেক্ষাপটে সোমবার থেকে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে শুরু হলো দুদিনের কর্মশালা। পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত এই কর্মশালার বিষয় ‘অত্যধিক বৃষ্টিপাত ও ঝুঁকি ব্যবস্থাপনা’। এদিন সকালে মেঘনাদ সাহা সম্মেলন কক্ষে ব্যতিক্রমী উদ্যোগ হিসেবে এক চারাগাছে জল ঢেলে এই কর্মশালার আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করা হয়।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থের পৌরোহিত্যে আয়োজিত উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন গুয়াহাটি আঞ্চলিক আবহাওয়া কেন্দ্রের বিজ্ঞানী সুনীত দাস, কাছাড় জেলা দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্তৃপক্ষের উপদেষ্টা ড. রাজীব গুপ্ত, আগরতলা আবহাওয়া কেন্দ্রের ইনচার্জ ড. পার্থ রায় প্রমুখ।

স্বাগত বক্তব্য রাখেন স্কুল অব ফিজিক্যাল সায়েন্সের ডিন তথা কর্মশালার সমন্বয়ক অধ্যাপক অত্রি দেশমুখ্য। তিনি কর্মশালার পটভূমি ও উদ্দেশ্য ব্যাখ্যা করেন। বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস বর্তমান জলবায়ু পরিস্থিতিতে এই ধরনের বিশেষায়িত কর্মশালার গুরুত্ব ও প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপর আলোকপাত করেন। উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক পন্থ দুর্যোগ প্রশমন ও ব্যবস্থাপনায় শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকার কথা উল্লেখ করে এই কর্মশালার প্রাসঙ্গিকতা ও তাৎপর্য তুলে ধরেন।

কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের ভূ-বিজ্ঞান মন্ত্রকের পৃষ্ঠপোষকতায় আয়োজিত কর্মশালায় রিসোর্স পার্সন হিসেবে রয়েছেন ত্রিপুরা রাজ্য দুর্যোগ ব্যবস্থাপনা কর্তৃপক্ষের শরৎ চন্দ্র দাস ও কাছাড় ডিডিএমএ’র ফিল্ড অফিসার রণবিজয় দাস। মোট ৪০ জন অংশগ্রহণকারী এই কর্মশালায় বৃষ্টিপাতজনিত ঝুঁকি ও তার কারিগরি দিকসমূহ নিয়ে আলোচনায় অংশ নিচ্ছেন। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন পদার্থবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ছাত্রী সুস্মিতা সিংহ।

Way2barak, February 9 : In the backdrop of increasing climatic uncertainty in the Northeast, a two-day workshop titled “Extreme Rainfall and Risk Management” commenced at Assam University on Monday. The workshop is being organized by the Department of Physics. As a symbolic and eco-friendly gesture, the workshop was formally inaugurated at the Meghnad Saha Conference Hall by watering a sapling.

The inaugural session was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant. Among those present on the occasion were Sunita Das, Scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati; Dr. Rajiv Gupta, Advisor to the Cachar District Disaster Management Authority; and Dr. Partha Roy, In-charge of the Agartala Meteorological Centre, among others.

Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Atri Deshmukh, Dean of the School of Physical Sciences and Coordinator of the workshop, outlined the background and objectives of the programme. Head of the Department of Physics, Prof. Himadri Shekhar Das, highlighted the importance and necessity of such specialized workshops in the context of the prevailing climate scenario. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pant emphasized the crucial role of educational institutions in disaster mitigation and management, underlining the relevance and significance of the workshop.

The workshop is being organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. Resource persons include Sarat Chandra Das from the Tripura State Disaster Management Authority and Ranbijay Das, Field Officer of the Cachar DDMA. A total of 40 participants are taking part in the workshop, engaging in discussions on rainfall-induced risks and their technical aspects. The inaugural programme was compered by Sushmita Sinha, a student of the Department of Physics.
