ওয়ে টু বরাক, ৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি : এশিয়ার দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম প্রাকৃতিক জলাভূমি শনবিল দক্ষিণ আসামের আর্থ-সামাজিক উন্নয়নে ‘গেম চ্যাঞ্জার’ হতে উঠতে পারে। তবে এরজন্য সর্ব প্রথম যে কাজটি করতে হবে, তা হলো জলের সংরক্ষণ। আর তা না হলে অদূর ভবিষ্যতে শনবিলের কোনও অস্তিত্বই থাকবে না। শনিবার শ্রীভূমি জেলার আনন্দপুরে আয়োজিত ‘শনবিল উৎসব ২.০’র উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে আক্ষেপের সুর যেমন ধ্বনিত হয়, তেমনি হোমস্টে শিল্পের মাধ্যমে পর্যটনের নতুন সম্ভাবনার দিকও উন্মোচিত হলো।

এদিকে সকালে প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে শনবিল উৎসব ২.০’র আনুষ্ঠানিক সূচনা করেন অবসরপ্রাপ্ত চিফ এয়ার মার্শাল অরূপ রাহা। সঙ্গে ছিলেন আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ, রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক মানবেন্দ্র দত্তচৌধুরী ও একাডেমিক রেজিস্ট্রার ড. সন্দীপ রত্ন প্রমুখ। বন্দেমাতরম সঙ্গীত পরিবেশন করেন পারফর্মিং আর্টস বিভাগের পড়ুয়ারা।

স্বাগত বক্তব্য পেশ করার পাশাপাশি এই উৎসব আয়োজনের উদ্দেশ্য ব্যাখ্যা করেন আয়োজক কমিটির সংযোজক অধ্যাপক অরুণজ্যোতি নাথ। উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ বলেন, শনবিলে যখন প্রথম আসেন তখনই এখানকার প্রেমে পড়ে যান। শনবিল শুধু প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যে ভরপুর নয়, বরং বহুমাত্রিক সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের এক সমৃদ্ধ ভাণ্ডার। তিনি বলেন, শনবিল উৎসবের মাধ্যমে এই প্রাকৃতিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐশ্বর্যকে বিশ্বদরবারে তুলে ধরাই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মূল লক্ষ্য।

উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক মানবেন্দ্র দত্তচৌধুরী বলেন, প্রথম বার যখন শনবিল উৎসব আয়োজিত হয়, তখন আয়োজনের সব ব্যবস্থা শিলচর থেকে করা হয়েছে। কিন্তু এবার সব স্থানীয় ভাবেই সম্পন্ন করা হয়েছে। তিনি বলেন, শনবিলকে বাঁচাতে সবাইকে সংঘবদ্ধ হতে হবে। জল সংরক্ষণের উদ্যোগ নিতে হবে। পরিবেশবান্ধব পর্যটন ও স্থানীয় মানুষের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে এই অঞ্চল উন্নয়নের নতুন দিগন্তে পৌঁছবে বলেও তিনি আশা প্রকাশ করেন।

অবসরপ্রাপ্ত এয়ার চিফ মার্শাল অরূপ রাহা বলেন, জীববৈচিত্র্য, লোকসংস্কৃতি এবং পর্যটন সম্ভাবনার দিক থেকে শনবিল জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতির যোগ্য। আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ শনবিলকে শুধু ভারতের মধ্যেই নয়, আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটন মানচিত্রেও একটি আকর্ষণীয় গন্তব্য হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করতে সহায়ক হবে। এই উদ্যোগের ফলে স্থানীয় মানুষের সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক অবস্থার উন্নয়ন ঘটবে বলেও তিনি আশা প্রকাশ করেন।

এদিন উৎসব উপলক্ষে স্থানীয় শিল্প-সংস্কৃতি, হস্তশিল্প প্রদর্শনী, লোকসংগীত ও নৃত্যসহ নানা কর্মসূচির আয়োজন করা হয়। এতে স্থানীয় শিল্পী, সংগঠন ছাড়াও অংশ নেন আমন্ত্রিত শিল্পীরা। এই উৎসব নিয়ে দিনভর স্থানীয় মানুষের প্রাণবন্ত উচ্ছ্বাস আর আবেগ আয়োজকদের পরিশ্রমের সার্থকতারই জানান দেয়।

Arup Raha Wants Sonbeel on the International Tourism Map

Way2barak, February 7 : Asia’s second-largest natural wetland, Sonbeel, has the potential to emerge as a game changer for the socio-economic development of southern Assam. However, the foremost priority to achieve this is water conservation; otherwise, Sonbeel may cease to exist in the near future. These concerns, along with new possibilities for tourism through the ‘homestay’, were highlighted at the inaugural ceremony of ‘Sonbeel Festival 2.0’, held on Saturday at Anandapur in Sribhumi district.

The festival was formally inaugurated in the morning by lighting the ceremonial lamp by former Chief Air Marshal Arup Raha, in the presence of Assam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, Rabindranath Tagore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Academic Registrar Dr. Sandip Ratna, among others. Students of the Department of Performing Arts presented a rendition of Vande Mataram.

While delivering the welcome address, Prof. Arunajyoti Nath, Convenor of the Organising Committee, explained the objectives behind organising the festival. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant said that he fell in love with Sonbeel the very first time he visited the place. He described Sonbeel as not merely a site of natural beauty, but a rich repository of multi-dimensional cultural heritage. He added that the university’s primary objective in organising the Sonbeel Festival is to showcase this natural and cultural wealth on the global stage.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury recalled that during the first edition of the Sonbeel Festival, all arrangements were made from Silchar, whereas this time the entire event has been organised locally. He stressed the need for collective efforts to save Sonbeel through water conservation initiatives. Expressing optimism, he said that eco-friendly tourism and active participation of local communities would open new avenues of development for the region.

Former Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha stated that Sonbeel deserves both national and international recognition for its biodiversity, folk culture, and tourism potential. He noted that the joint initiative of Assam University and Rabindranath Tagore University would help establish Sonbeel not only as a prominent destination within India, but also on the international tourism map. He further expressed hope that this initiative would contribute to the social and economic upliftment of local communities.

The festival featured a range of activities, including exhibitions of local art and culture, handicrafts, folk music, and dance performances. Along with local artists and organisations, invited performers also took part. The vibrant enthusiasm and emotional participation of local residents throughout the day stood as a testament to the success and significance of the festival.
