Ensuring a thriving future: Minister Rupesh Gowala reviews Barak Valley’s tea industry

way2barak, March 17 : Minister for Labour Welfare, Prisons, homeguard ,Civil defence and Tea tribes and adivasi Welfare,Rupesh Gowala, spearheaded an important review meeting focusing on the tea industry and welfare of tea garden workers across the three districts of Barak Valley—Cachar, Shribhumi, and Hailakandi here on Monday. The meeting took place in the new conference hall of the Cachar District Commissioner’s office , bringing together key stakeholders from various departments to assess the present challenges and chart a sustainable future for the region’s tea sector.
Parallel to the tea industry in the Brahmaputra Valley, the tea gardens and workers of Barak Valley have played an equally significant role in keeping Assam’s tea industry strong and dynamic. Acknowledging this contribution, the discussion emphasized critical aspects such as healthcare, education, and overall well-being of tea garden workers. With directors, labour representatives, and senior officials from multiple departments present, the forum addressed pressing concerns and devised strategies for future stability and growth in the sector.
Minister Gowala underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring better living conditions, enhanced educational opportunities, and improved healthcare facilities for the tea garden community. Clear directives were issued to streamline operations and implement targeted initiatives in the coming days.
The high-level meeting was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals, and Barak Valley Development, Kaushik Rai,Silchar MLA ,Dipayan Chakraborty, Udharbond,MLA ,Mihir Kanti Shom, Additional Chief Secretary of the Labour Department ,Kalyan Chakraborty, Cachar District Commissioner , Mridul Yadav, and General Secretary of Barak Tea Labour Union ,Rajdeep Goala. Their collective insights and recommendations paved the way for a more structured and result-oriented approach toward addressing the concerns of tea workers and reinforcing the industry’s sustainability.
With a strong resolve to uplift the tea sector in Barak Valley, the government remains steadfast in its efforts to implement progressive policies that will ensure long-term benefits for workers and stakeholders alike.
