Bangla Sahitya Sabha & Shilpangan demands provision for purchase of Bengali books for all district libraries in Assam
way2barak, Nov.30: On Tuesday, members of Silchar chapter of Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom and Shilpangan met Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and submitted a charter of demands. The delegation also submitted two separate memorandums to the Education Minister where they raised some demands.
- They demanded to organise a Book Fair by Assam Prakashan Parishad in Silchar in 2022-2023.
- The delegation also raised the demand that the proposed Museum in Barak Valley should be named after the great scholar Raj Mohan Nath. They further stated that the major part of the career of this stalwart scholar was spent in the Brahmaputra Valley and he wrote both in Assamese and Bengali. This they regarded would be a befitting tribute to this great scholar.
- Also they stated that there should be a provision for the purchase of Bengali books for all the districts and sub-division level libraries of Assam.
- There should not be any dearth of the publication of books by Assam Prakashan Parishad in Bengali language on varied subjects mainly related to Assam.
- Demand was also raised for appointment of Fine Arts Teacher at primary and secondary level
During the meeting, the delegation also handed over a book to the Education Minister titled ‘Unsung Hero’ written by Samarbijoy Chakraborty, Sahitya Pension Awardee and President of Silchar chapter of Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom. This book is a compilation of 12 short stories. The delegation comprised of Samarbijoy Chakraborty, Sandipan Dutta Purkayastha, Binoy Paul and Sudarshan Gupta.
