35 malicious Apps on Google Play Store steal personal information, delete them if installed in mobile

Aug. 19: 35 malicious apps on the Play Store with more than two million downloads combined are attempting to steal personal information and showing unwanted ads. Cybersecurity researchers from Bitdefender discovered a total of 35 Android apps on the Google Play Store that serve dangerous ads to their victims, and try their hardest to hide and prevent the users from removing them.

The apps are spread across a range of popular categories, from GPS apps to photo filters to wallpapers. They’ve all racked up tens or even hundreds of thousands of downloads each, and use a number of sneaky tactics to avoid being identified. If you have any of them on your phone, you should uninstall them now.

Some of the apps may conceal their presence by changing their name and app icon after they have been installed. If you downloaded any of these apps on your device, delete them immediately. Of course, it’s possible the apps have changed their names and app icons, which means you’ll need to be scrupulous in your investigations: Look for any apps, such as utility or settings apps, you know you didn’t have previously on your device.
